The next ChangeFest Gathering will be held in Gimuy (Cairns South), in partnership with Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Elders and Cairns South Together.
At the ChangeFest25 Closing Ceremony in Walyalup, the ChangeFest Statement and message stick were passed to Gimuy Walubara Elder Uncle Neville Reys, extending the ChangeFest Songlines to Far North Queensland.
Led by local guidance
ChangeFest Gatherings are led by local Elders and shaped by local priorities.
Since ChangeFest25, work has been underway with Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Elders and Cairns South Together to determine the right time for the next Gathering.
Following guidance from Uncle Neville Reys, ChangeFest will not gather in 2026, as the year marks 150 years since the colonisation in the community.
When will ChangeFest27 take place?
We're pleased to announce the dates as: Wed 21 - Fri 23 April 2027
The timing of ChangeFest27 was carefully considered in response to local context. Planning took into account:
- Local priorities and cultural guidance
- The timing of the wet season to minimise disruption and maximise comfort (ending March)
- School holiday and peak tourism periods which impact travel and accommodation costs (beginning June)
- Venue availability and event logistics
Shaped by place and community
The program is being developed with local Elders, Cairns South Together, and the wider community. As with every ChangeFest Gathering, it will be grounded in Country, local stories, and the priorities of people contributing to community-led change in Gimuy and across Australia.
