Some of the things you might want to start considering are:\n\n* Why your community wants to host the national ChangeFest movement for a ChangeFest event;\n* How the principles of the ChangeFest Statement apply to the story of your community;\n* Local authorisation including from First Nations leadership; and\n* The capacity of your community to host up to 500 people for a 3-day event.\n* This is a collaboration and a learning partnership with Collaboration for Impact (national backbone) and the ChangeFest Elders Group. We are looking for diverse communities, big, small, regional, urban. Your work may not have significant levels of funding but is rich in relationships and collaboration across the community.\n\nWe are also looking ahead to future years – 2025, 2026 and even beyond – so that future host communities can be in a supported network together to learn and prepare for the role of the local host.\n\nPlease get in touch to start the conversation"},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"We are excited to announce that the process for CF25 and CF26 community hosts is now open.\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754639971/cfi/banner/host-change-fest-banner_image__Host_changefest_banner_llnfmb.webp","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754639971/cfi/banner/host-change-fest-banner_image__Host_changefest_banner_llnfmb.webp","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754639971/cfi/banner/host-change-fest-banner_image__Host_changefest_banner_llnfmb.webp"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754639971/cfi/banner/host-change-fest-banner_image__Host_changefest_banner_llnfmb.webp","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754639971/cfi/banner/host-change-fest-banner_image__Host_changefest_banner_llnfmb.webp"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2024-04-13T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"6895b41a8d9142b35ed66777","name":"Western Downs Futures – ChangeFest Learning Network","path":"/posts/western-downs-futures-change-fest-learning-network","slug":"western-downs-futures-change-fest-learning-network","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"In September, Renee King from Western Downs Futures will share the story of how the Western Downs community is changing the narrative from disadvantage to power. \nThe Narrative: changing the story of catalytic events to mobilise a collaborative effort.   \n","text":"In September, Renee King from Western Downs Futures will share the story of how the Western Downs community is changing the narrative from disadvantage to power. \n\nThe Narrative: changing the story of catalytic events to mobilise a collaborative effort.   "},"content":{"text":"Stories bring us together. Her artwork brings a strong local identity to ChangeFest24 and reflects the local Country where the event will take place. Her creation is centred around these themes:\n\n* Reflects our place (Sunraysia community)\n* Celebrates our community’s identity and connection\n* Represents our children, young people and families\n\nExpressions of Interest were called for earlier this year seeking Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists who live in, and have a strong connection to the Sunraysia community. The artwork and its elements will be used for the co-branding and local identity for the ChangeFest24 event in Mildura, in the lead up, during, and following ChangeFest24.\n\nWe give deep gratitude to the Kutalayna Collective who innovated the idea of centring local art and artists in the national place-based event through their role as local hosts of ChangeFest23.\n\n### About Local Artist Hope Kuchel\n<ImageAsset id=\"68983292a12f11441ef32f8a\" />\n\n“I believe it’s important to maintain connections with not only your community but the ones you are guests on.”\n\nI am a proud Barkindji woman raised on Latji Latji Country in Mildura. I’ve always participated in community events whether that be cultural workshops, gatherings and advocated for our community in Mildura.\n\nI work for Koorie Youth Council so my time is spent between Melbourne and Mildura but I believe this creates a platform for me to connect young people to our work that is state-wide but also emphasise the strengths of small regional communities.\n\nI have a strong family who are always involved and mentoring me about culture, connecting and community wellbeing. My mum Aunty Ada Peterson and Uncle Peter Peterson are some of those people but in Melbourne those are people such as Indi Clarke, Bonnie Dukakis, Aunty Di Kerr etc.\n\n### About the ChangeFest 2024 Artwork\nThis artwork presents a vibrant and rich image of the Mildura town and its community identity. The backdrop, in beautiful orange and yellow colours, symbolises the natural landscape of the region, while the recurrent pattern signifies a weaving of Aboriginal culture and community (inspired by the weaving I do on top of drawing/painting).\n\nThe repetitive Murray cod in the background, swimming in harmony, signify unity and a collective moment. A community moving forward together. It’s also a nod to the Murray river through the movement which resembles water flowing in the Murray.\n\nThe central image features multiple different animals coming together. Although, with their own borders, understandings and experiences, they are formed in a circle to represent a meeting place that is safe for everyone and what they bring to the table.\n\nThe eagle more closely represents the Barkindji people, the neighbours across the river as well as young people who have big aspirations about their community.\n\nThe turtle represents our sea Country people, who might be travelling far to join the conversation but also represents our older generation, our Elders – as turtles to me hold wisdom and knowledge, they are the protectors of our young people.\n\nThe snake, representative of cycles and people or communities undergoing change to grow.\n\nThe ring tailed possum represents family, as community should be about forming connections and coming together, which our Aboriginal communities does by bridging partnerships but also to come together to help each other in times of need.\n\nThe Goanna is a powerful animal so it signifies strength and adaptability, known to survive in diverse environments across Australia it is resilient like our communities.\n\nThe animals themselves represent everyone, young, Elders and families, as we all come together as a community.\n\nThe artwork hopes to display the core objective of people coming together to share knowledge and take in the rich culture of our Mildura community. Through a warm and bright colour palette I hope it radiates a sense of belonging in the warm Mildura region.\n\nChangeFest is supported by the national backbone team, [Collaboration for Impact (CFI)](/organisations/collaboration-for-impact)."},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"ChangeFest and local hosts Hands Up Mallee and Connected Beginnings Mildura are excited to announce and share the artwork of Barkindji artist Hope Kuchel as the successful local artist for ChangeFest24 in Mildura.\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754804771/cfi/banner/hk-cultural-artwork-cf-24-banner_image__HKCulturalArtwork-CF24_banner_iejxpx.webp","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754804771/cfi/banner/hk-cultural-artwork-cf-24-banner_image__HKCulturalArtwork-CF24_banner_iejxpx.webp","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754804771/cfi/banner/hk-cultural-artwork-cf-24-banner_image__HKCulturalArtwork-CF24_banner_iejxpx.webp"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754804771/cfi/banner/hk-cultural-artwork-cf-24-banner_image__HKCulturalArtwork-CF24_banner_iejxpx.webp","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754804771/cfi/banner/hk-cultural-artwork-cf-24-banner_image__HKCulturalArtwork-CF24_banner_iejxpx.webp"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2023-12-13T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"6899d9eb0e4157c76a78ebcf","name":"ChangeFest Seeks Local Artwork for 2024","path":"/posts/change-fest-seeks-local-artwork-for-2024","slug":"change-fest-seeks-local-artwork-for-2024","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"Expressions of Interest are now open! \n","text":"Expressions of Interest are now open! People came from diverse communities right across the country, with different perspectives on how change happens, different roles in the ecosystem, and different types of power. This diversity is an ongoing strength of ChangeFest and critical for progressing the movement for place-based change in ways that centre the principles of the ChangeFest Statement. \n\nThe CF23 program was designed with the local Kutalayna community, communities across Lutruwita/Tasmania and with input from the wider movement across the country and co-convened by Collaboration for Impact, Kowa Collaboration, Health Justice Australia, and LaTrobe University.\n\nA central theme of the event was exploring the different roles needed across the system to enable community led systems change – and the work it takes from all of us to work differently and truly step into the work of collaboration, from community, government, philanthropy and other funders, intermediaries and other organisations that work across the local to national level, and service providers. Across ChangeFest it was clear that the movement is committed to moving beyond silos to finding new ways to share leadership and centre community voice in decision making.\n\nWe had more diversity of speakers than ever before with over 100+ speakers across 30 breakout sessions, 3 x big stage sessions combined with a powerful keynote speech by Dr Jandamarra Cadd, and the cranking River Party. The CF23 program was beautifully hosted by the Material Institute and Kutalayna Collective, and our friends of Kutalayna Collective and ChangeFest, MCs Dewayne Everett-Smith and Sharon Watchell.\n\nThe richness of conversations, curiosity, story-telling, and coming together to learn and provoke deep questioning is what makes ChangeFest such a critical platform for sustaining the relationships and movement of community-led, place-based change in Australia. In the words of Jandamarra Cadd, justice and equity is possible only through the ongoing work of “eternal collaboration”. We acknowledge the work this takes and how important this movement is for sustaining and deepening this work and way of being.\n\nCF24 planning is now underway with our next local host community, Mildura, for March 2024 and a Save the Dates will be coming soon. In addition to CF24 in Mildura, ChangeFest will start to host smaller online and in person learning events either side of the large national gathering. We will be focusing on key themes raised in CF23 and topics that are central to strengthening the movement for place-based change. So stay tuned and make sure you are signed up to the ChangeFest mailing list for news and updates."},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"Earlier this year in March, over 500 people from Kingston\n\nSPEECH\nFRIDAY 3 MARCH 2023\n\nChangeFest: The Future of Place-Based Change\n\nBrighton, Lutruwita/Tasmania\n\nGood morning everyone and thank you for inviting me to open this plenary session on the future of place-based change.\n\nUnfortunately I’m not able to be there with you in person today and I’m recording this a little earlier in Parliament House in Canberra.\n\nI would like to start this morning by acknowledging the traditional owners of the lands on which I am on today, the Ngunnawal people, and pay my respects to their elders past and present.\n\nI extend that acknowledgement and respect to all First Nations peoples there with you today.\n\nI’m proud to be part of a Government that is committed to delivering a Voice to Parliament and recognising our First Nations people in the constitution.\n\nEnsuring local communities have an opportunity to be heard by the Parliament is something worth voting YES for.\n\nI would also like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which ChangeFest is held, and acknowledge elders past, present and emerging.\n\nI am honoured that I am able to lend my support to a First Nations led, place-based, social change approach, and this will be a great opportunity to share learnings about how communities and collaborators are leading change.\n\nI want to begin by recognising the extensive work undertaken by ChangeFest to put community-led approaches in action, and hold such a successful event at this scale.\n\nWith community-led change, we will see real results and long-term change.\n\nIt’s an honour to be given the opportunity to highlight the importance of these community-led approaches, and how our Albanese Labor Government is committed to backing-in community-led change.\n\nFor me, I truly believe place-based solutions are critical to empowering communities and delivering solutions that actually work.\n\nThey are how we will see significant, lasting change.\n\nPlace-based solutions, including shared decision making, working across governments, and facilitating access to community-level data will help communities – but it will also help government and non-government sectors to empower communities by ensuring they have access to supports that best suit them.\n\nWhile there is significant government and philanthropic investment across Australia, recent events, including widespread flooding, bushfires, and the COVID-19 pandemic, have presented additional challenges for communities.\n\nIt is critical we listen to these communities and learn from their experiences.\n\nChangeFest is and has been a vehicle for real lasting change in this space.\n\nThe first ChangeFest was held in now-Treasurer Jim Chalmers’s hometown of Logan in 2018 and the Stronger Place, Stronger People initiative was announced at ChangeFest 2018.\n\nJust recently I was in Logan visiting Village Connect and Logan Together, where I saw place-based solutions in action, including one of their maternal and child health hubs.\n\nThe design of these hubs were driven by data and community voices, and aligned with the shared strategy for change. By designing cultural-specific child and maternal health hubs, we are seeing better outcomes for mothers and children in Logan, including lowering the rate of stillbirths from 2 to 0.5 per cent.\n\nUse of the Hubs, including by Pasifika mothers, has increased breastfeeding and a lower likelihood of pre-term birth.\n\nWomen using the Hubs were also found to be statistically more likely to attend antenatal psychosocial screening.\n\nWhat is critical about place-based solutions is the coming together and cooperation of different community organisations, services, levels of government, to coordinate solutions in one place – meeting the specific needs of that community.\n\nIt’s critical to ensure people aren’t falling through the cracks anymore.\n\nThis new way of working allows the supports that already exist in a community to be knitted together, and reduces the need for people to tell their stories over and over again.\n\nIt will be better value for money for Government investment, it will produce better outcomes and build a stronger community.\n\nCommunities look different. They have strengths and different issues that need to be solved and it’s far from one size fits all. We know solving the complex problems children and families face in communities will be different.\n\nOngoing engagement with a community to identify its strengths and needs is critical to make better, shared decisions.\n\nDriven by community, this approach can allow real change to be enacted and allow governments at all levels, along with services, businesses, schools and police, to all play important roles in supporting the community.\n\nBy listening to the voices of communities and working hand in hand, the Government will continue its commitment to drive improvements to support.\n\nOne integral part of this involves governments working differently.\n\nWe have commenced this through a range of place-based initiatives, partnering with community to align policy agendas with community for change.\n\nThe Government is currently investing more than $100 million per year in place-based programs and initiatives, operating in many locations across Australia.\n\nThere is opportunity to learn from the community-led initiatives that are delivering results and to back what works.\n\nMany more place-based and community-led initiatives are funded by states and territory governments, and philanthropy.\n\nThe Albanese Labor Government is committed to supporting community-led change. This involves governments working differently, genuine partnerships at all levels, co-design and adjusting funding and policy to align to community agendas for change.\n\nI am excited by what can be achieved when we work together, and look forward to seeing the results from the many new partnerships we are creating.\n\nMy department has activities already underway which demonstrate this new way of working.\n\nAnother example of the Stronger Places, Stronger People initiative that I mentioned before is the work happening in Bourke.\n\nThis work is well progressed in Bourke. Maranguka is working with local families, the three major service providers in town, Bourke Shire Council, the NSW and Australian governments, and is authorised by the Bourke Tribal Council.\n\nThere is commitment to redesign family support in Bourke, so that it works for local children, young people, parents and carers.\n\nWorkshops to redesign family support are being planned for April, the decisions made will be shared by community, services and governments. The outcomes will be services and activities that meet the needs of Bourke families and are culturally respectful.\n\nAnd while not technically a place-based initiative, a great example to highlight the benefits of shared decision making is the work we have done to deliver the first action plans under Safe and Supported: The National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021-2031.\n\nThese Action Plans are another example of the results we can achieve by working together in a delegated decision making framework.\n\nThe Action Plans were done in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – and importantly with a children-centric focus. This was a true co-design process.\n\nWe are ensuring that the voices of people affected by policies are at the centre of policy-making, and this is a principle we are applying to the development of the Early Years Strategy too.\n\nThe Strategy aims to deliver the best possible outcomes for Australian children by recognising how critical the early years are for children’s development and continued success over their lifetime.\n\nJust a few weeks ago parents and community organisations were joined by representatives from across government, non-government, academic and business sectors – along with First Nation’s voices – to start the discussion on how to get the settings right across all portfolio areas for Australia’s children, ensuring parents and children are at the centre.\n\nCommunity-led systems change, like the work underway in Bourke and Logan, is addressing the causes of poverty. We know that community-led systems change is delivering better outcomes and the Albanese Labor Government wants to better back this work in partnership with communities.\n\nIn closing, let me say thank you again to ChangeFest for inviting me to speak.\n\nMy Department has long been a major sponsor of this event. You continue to pave the way and inspire the success of community-led change.\n\nYour work today, led by local communities, will continue this process, and make real change.\n\nThis is only the beginning of the conversation.\n\nAs the Prime Minister has said previously, this should not be a remarkable exception, it should be the default approach, that governments align effort to community-led change.\n\nI can’t wait to see where place-based, community-led approaches take us.\n\nYour contributions are recognised, valued, and celebrated.\n\nThank you."},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"ChangeFest: The Future of Place-Based Change\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754968609/cfi/banner/the-future-of-place-based-change-by-the-hon-amanda-rishworth-mp_image__The_Future_of_Place-Based_Change_by_The_Hon_Amanda_Rishworth_MP_lvmqmx.webp","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754968609/cfi/banner/the-future-of-place-based-change-by-the-hon-amanda-rishworth-mp_image__The_Future_of_Place-Based_Change_by_The_Hon_Amanda_Rishworth_MP_lvmqmx.webp","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754968609/cfi/banner/the-future-of-place-based-change-by-the-hon-amanda-rishworth-mp_image__The_Future_of_Place-Based_Change_by_The_Hon_Amanda_Rishworth_MP_lvmqmx.webp"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754968609/cfi/banner/the-future-of-place-based-change-by-the-hon-amanda-rishworth-mp_image__The_Future_of_Place-Based_Change_by_The_Hon_Amanda_Rishworth_MP_lvmqmx.webp","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754968609/cfi/banner/the-future-of-place-based-change-by-the-hon-amanda-rishworth-mp_image__The_Future_of_Place-Based_Change_by_The_Hon_Amanda_Rishworth_MP_lvmqmx.webp"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2023-03-13T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"689ab4522f06d37a2751d546","name":"Sharing the ChangeFest21 report and progress to ChangeFest22","path":"/posts/sharing-the-change-fest-21-report-and-progress-to-change-fest-22","slug":"sharing-the-change-fest-21-report-and-progress-to-change-fest-22","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"We write to share how we are learning from ChangeFest21 and continuing the journey to ChangeFest22 in Tasmania.\n","text":"We write to share how we are learning from ChangeFest21 and continuing the journey to ChangeFest22 in Tasmania."},"content":{"text":"\nWe hope you are all keeping well in these uncertain times. We feel extremely fortunate that ChangeFest 21 was able to take place on Larrakia country in June – a window of opportunity within this ongoing pandemic.\n\nWe write to share how we are learning from ChangeFest21 and continuing the journey to ChangeFest22 in Tasmania.\n\nThanking\nFirstly, a significant ChangeFest announcement. On 30 September, Pippa Bailey’s contract as ChangeFest Director and Producer concluded. From starting with ChangeFest 19 in Mount Druitt, through ChangeFest on the Road during 2020, and on to ChangeFest21 in Palmerston, Pippa brought immense energy, passion and commitment to the role holding strongly to the principle of centring First Nations and community voice and perspective.\n\nChangeFest holds all the complexities and competing commitments that place-based work does – requiring constant iteration, engagement across diverse stakeholders and adapting to the changing context. The commitment to First Nations and community voice, and creativity that Pippa brought to the Director role will not be lost as ChangeFest continues on its journey to Tasmania and beyond. We thank Pippa for the significant contribution she has made to ChangeFest. We know her work as a change agent will continue and wish her well.\n\nReporting\nIn continuing that acknowledgement, we are very excited to present the ChangeFest21 Co-Directors Report from Pippa Bailey and Romana Paulson. Here is how she created them.\n1. How are the flags printed?\n‘There were a number of different methods used for the flags. I can break them up into two primary methods – simmering and steaming:\nSimmering – In this case, a ‘dirty’ pot was used which is a big pot containing a well boiled concoction of eucalyptus leaves and bark, along with a few pieces of rusty metal to add iron to the mix. It is called ‘dirty’ because the resulting brew is dark and funky. The flags created with this method were firstly soaked in water with vinegar and printed primarily with different varieties of eucalyptus, rolled onto pipes, immersed into the dirty pot and simmered for a number of hours. The dark brew colours the edges of the flags and the lines on the ends were created by the strings used to tie up the bundles. In most cases a barrier was used to prevent the leaves from printing through multiple layers of the fabric, which we call ‘ghosting’, but for a few flags I didn’t use a barrier and folded the flags on random diagonals to create more complex prints with the ghosting.\nSteaming – This is where the flag is steamed in a very big pot instead of being immersed in liquid. In this case I used another piece of fabric that was soaked in iron water or a natural dye and laid over the foliage on top of the flag. This extra fabric is called an iron blanket or carrier blanket and it affects the outcome by reacting with the pre-treatment applied to the flag or imparting a colour to the background. The flags were pre-treated with mineral salts (mordants) and in a few cases also dipped in a tannin solution made from eucalyptus bark. I used either an iron blanket, which reacts with the tannin in the foliage to create slightly darker outlines or with the tannin in the flag to create a purple-grey background, or a logwood (a natural botanical dye) carrier blanket to create a purple background. In all cases I used a barrier to prevent any ghosting as I wanted clearer prints.’\n2. What was your inspiration to start using this process?\n‘I’ve been retired for a few years now and after working full-time my whole adult life I struggled with not having that focus anymore. Then by accident I found an eco-dyeing workshop given by a local Brisbane woman last year and decided to attend for something to do. I was thoroughly hooked, and immediately started experimenting at home. Now after almost a year, I have 6 pots of varying sizes, attended another 5 courses, either in person or online, and I am constantly experimenting, learning and creating. My long-suffering partner will say I am obsessed, and I probably am!’\n3. How are the colours made?\n‘The colours of the foliage come directly from the foliage. It is such a wonderful surprise when unbundling a piece to see the colour of a particular variety of plant, as it changes depending on which plant or tree it came from, the age of the plant or tree, and the season. The type of fabric, the pre-treatment used (if any), and the type of blanket will also affect the resulting colour of both the foliage and the background. It is amazing that often the printed colour is very different to the original colour of the leaf or flower.’\n4. How did you approach design for each flag? \n‘Because of the time constraints, I used simple designs and methods for most of the flags. For example, some of the flags were printed in pairs, where I laid one flag on top of another with the foliage sandwiched in-between so one flag was a mirror image of the other. Others were folded in half lengthwise with foliage between the two halves to create a mirror image on the one flag. For a couple of flags I first soaked them in a tannin bath created from eucalyptus bark and used an iron blanket to create the purple-grey background resulting from the iron-tannin interaction. And finally, for a number I used a logwood carrier blanket to produce a purple-grey background.’\n5. Any secrets you can reveal?\n‘In the beginning everything I did was learnt from courses, books and the botanical printing communities that I’ve joined. Now that I’m more confident I’m constantly experimenting, adding to what I have learnt so far and creating my own recipes for different effects. I guess there may be some secrets!’\n6. Does the process always work?\n‘Oh no, there are always failures, though I don’t call them that, instead they are an opportunity to learn something new. The one thing I’ve learnt is to not hold onto an expectation of an outcome and to appreciate everything that comes out of the pot, so unbundling is like having Christmas all over again! There were a few ‘failures’ when printing the flags, but I was able to improve the results by using different recovery techniques such dipping a flag in iron water to darken a pale result, or reprinting it again over the top, or even dyeing it in logwood and then printing over the dye.’\n7. Do you do a lot of commissions?\n‘Yours was the first! Since then I’ve had a couple of orders for scarves and wraps produced in particular styles but that is all. It is early days yet.’\n8. How did you feel seeing the flags in situ at ChangeFestNT21?\n‘Oh my, I felt honoured and blessed to have been able to contribute to the festival and seeing my flags hanging up around the pavilion was amazing. I so want to thank you for the opportunity you gave me.’\n9. Anything else?\n‘Well, anything is possible. I’ve just created an Etsy store, though it is currently in Holiday mode until I build up enough stock and also work out how to take decent photos of my work. Stay tuned to my IG account for news of it’s opening.’\nLove Karen"},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"If you were at ChangeFestNT21 or have seen the photos you may have noticed some silk flags at the back of the marquee in Goyder Square.\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754970269/cfi/banner/creating-the-botanically-printed-flags-for-cfnt-21-an-interview-with-karen-payten_image__Aunty-Faith-Green-Aunty-Jenny-Ebsworth-Aunty-Margaret-Farrell-CFNT21_tdvs1m.jpg","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754970269/cfi/banner/creating-the-botanically-printed-flags-for-cfnt-21-an-interview-with-karen-payten_image__Aunty-Faith-Green-Aunty-Jenny-Ebsworth-Aunty-Margaret-Farrell-CFNT21_tdvs1m.jpg","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754970269/cfi/banner/creating-the-botanically-printed-flags-for-cfnt-21-an-interview-with-karen-payten_image__Aunty-Faith-Green-Aunty-Jenny-Ebsworth-Aunty-Margaret-Farrell-CFNT21_tdvs1m.jpg"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754970269/cfi/banner/creating-the-botanically-printed-flags-for-cfnt-21-an-interview-with-karen-payten_image__Aunty-Faith-Green-Aunty-Jenny-Ebsworth-Aunty-Margaret-Farrell-CFNT21_tdvs1m.jpg","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754970269/cfi/banner/creating-the-botanically-printed-flags-for-cfnt-21-an-interview-with-karen-payten_image__Aunty-Faith-Green-Aunty-Jenny-Ebsworth-Aunty-Margaret-Farrell-CFNT21_tdvs1m.jpg"}}}},"type":null,"published":"2021-08-16T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"689ab9ea2f06d37a2751d5ee","name":"Feeling transformed by ChangeFestNT21","path":"/posts/feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21","slug":"feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"Born and raised overseas in Germany and having lived on Kangaroo Island in South Australia for the last 13 years.\n","text":"Born and raised overseas in Germany and having lived on Kangaroo Island in South Australia for the last 13 years."},"content":{"text":"I had never been to Palmerston or attended, let alone heard of, ChangeFest. After losing my farm and house in the Black Summer bushfires, I started a community project to raise funds from a grassroots level. By using the funds to re-equip those unsung heroes in our community and preparing them for future disasters, I hoped to ease the overall anxiety levels on our island. I was invited to speak at ChangeFest21 in Palmerston in the Northern Territory and intrigued about what to expect and who I will meet.\n\nIn hindsight, I couldn’t have anticipated how important these three days would be for my personal growth and mindset and how attached I would get to making an impact together with this incredible community of changemakers.\n\nThe warmth of the Northern Territory embraced me as much as its people as soon as I stepped out of Darwin airport and caught a taxi to Palmerston going past hundreds of tall palm trees lining the streets. Excitement was in the air the next morning at Goyder Square whilst hundreds of visitors lined up for registrations on a sweltering hot day in the Top End. Once settled in under a marquee shelter with the sun still baking our backs, the Larrakia people celebrated our arrival with an unforgettable welcome ceremony full of smoking, didgeridoos and traditional music and dancing. What I learned about country in that introduction alone, I will proudly carry with me for the rest of my life.\n\nDay one was full of new faces, new ideas and understanding how a small group of determined people can make a big difference. Passionate community leaders had travelled from all over the country to share their ideas and learn from each other to help their region face challenges such as homelessness, youth injustice and cultural integration.\n\nI was nervous about speaking in front of this informed crowd straight after I arrived, wondering what I had to offer and if my story was of any value to them and their issues. A few seconds into my speech, I realised how open-minded and supportive each attending individual was, how one person’s journey can inspire many others to lead in their community, possibly facing very different issues but approaching them in a similar way.\n\nThe positive feedback I received straight after my talk—and for days to come—lifted me incredibly and reminded me that we are all in this together. I knew once again that all those big problems the world and every region face can be solved by a community of like-minded individuals carrying each other on their shoulders.\n\nOver the next three days, I enjoyed the fruits of the labour of all those amazing humans involved in creating, hosting and coordinating this event. All of us attending could just completely dive into being creative, connecting and collaborating for impact rather than worrying about transfers, food or the daily schedule.\n\nI felt fortunate to eat great healthy food in a holiday-like environment, be entertained by our hilarious and talented MC, listen to inspiring guest speakers from all over the country and mingle with keen changemakers for days. Hearing Thomas Mayor recite the Uluru Statement from the heart was one of the many unforgettable moments of ChangeFest21 for me.\n\nFinishing off every day with a fun activity such as barbeque and karaoke by the pool, poetry and music under the stars and enjoying food and sunset at the Darwin Mindil Markets created deep connections between participants and strong new friendships. Letting the newfound knowledge and many ideas we all created through daily workshops together settle in, we started each day with renewed energy and positivity.\n\nBeing in the company of Elders from the Mount Druitt and Logan areas, as well as those hosting us on Larrakia land, created a warm storytelling atmosphere through the whole of ChangeFest and brought immense learning with it. Listening closely to their issues and ideas to solve them was an incredibly important—if not the most important—part of the whole event. Feeling embraced by the warmth of their families and culture empowered all of us to create change from a community level up, make an impact and see a better future for a united Australia.\n\nDuring the closing ceremony at beautiful Sanctuary Lakes, we all got to experience an exceptional Larrakia smoking celebration and witness the emotional handover to the Tasmanian crew. Many hugs and tears were shared, promises made to see each other at the next ChangeFest and plans created to collaborate for impact in the future.\n\nOn day one of this event, I was Sabrina from Kangaroo Island. At the end of day three of ChangeFest, I was Sabrina living on Karta, thanking the Larrakia people for welcoming us to their country, acknowledging them as the Traditional Custodians of the land we were on and paying my respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.\n\nI left Palmerston and the Northern Territory the next day feeling transformed. I aim to continue to give everyone a voice, hoping to create change where needed and let the powers know how we all feel. Knowing that this three-day event, all the memories I’ve made and all the learnings I’ve had will help me make a difference in my community and hopefully—together with my new friends—in many others as well.\n\nSabrina Davis\n\nJuly 2021"},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"Born and raised overseas in Germany and having lived on Kangaroo Island in South Australia for the last 13 years.\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754970525/cfi/banner/feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.47.26_am_elqskh.png","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754970525/cfi/banner/feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.47.26_am_elqskh.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754970525/cfi/banner/feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.47.26_am_elqskh.png"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754970525/cfi/banner/feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.47.26_am_elqskh.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754970525/cfi/banner/feeling-transformed-by-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.47.26_am_elqskh.png"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2021-08-04T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"689abb212f06d37a2751d63a","name":"A link to Pro-Bono’s article about ChangeFestNT21","path":"/posts/a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21","slug":"a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"Big thanks to Maggie Coggan for this piece about ChangeFestNT21 featuring Serena Dalton (pictured) here:\n","text":"Big thanks to Maggie Coggan for this piece about ChangeFestNT21 featuring Serena Dalton (pictured) here:"},"content":{"text":"https://probonoaustralia.com.au/news/2021/06/creating-and-celebrating-change-at-the-local-level/"},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"Big thanks to Maggie Coggan for this piece about ChangeFestNT21 featuring Serena Dalton (pictured) here:\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754970725/cfi/banner/a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.51.13_am_fbwesf.png","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754970725/cfi/banner/a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.51.13_am_fbwesf.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754970725/cfi/banner/a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.51.13_am_fbwesf.png"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754970725/cfi/banner/a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.51.13_am_fbwesf.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754970725/cfi/banner/a-link-to-pro-bonos-article-about-change-fest-nt-21_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_11.51.13_am_fbwesf.png"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2021-08-02T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"689abd312f06d37a2751d68a","name":"Movements spotted at ChangeFestNT21 by Moira Were","path":"/posts/movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were","slug":"movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"Collaborative for Impact are one of the National Conveners of ChangeFest, have developed and supported a set of foundations for the work of building a movement of systems change makers.\n","text":"Collaborative for Impact are one of the National Conveners of ChangeFest, have developed and supported a set of foundations for the work of building a movement of systems change makers."},"content":{"text":"These foundations are guiding the work of CFI practitioners and the Learning Programs and reflected in the widening CFI Network.\n\nCollaboration for Impact is building a movement of systems change makers skilled and ready to support communities make the shifts towards equity and justice being called for across our nation.\n\nThis piece is making visible some of the national movements linked to social, economic and environmental justice initiatives.\n\nChangeFest 2021 was held on Larrakia country. The program, directed by local hosts led by Palmerston Indigenous Network, gathered participants who are all contributing to building this movement of changemakers. This is a short reflection on what I saw, heard and learnt about movement building at ChangeFest and place-based work from three specific inputs at ChangeFest.\n\nEach of the three examples share some common features:\n\nIntersectionality of issues\nEquity as a core principle\nNon-linear changemaking\nCommunity at the centre of the work and practice\nAll of the examples also moved along a scale from personal experiences of belonging to being influential collectively and aspirations that grew from disconnection through to being convicted and influential collective responses.\n\nCOVID19 and Bushfires as a leadership stimulus\n\nDay 1 of ChangeFest 21 had an online presentation from Dr Catherine Barrett who is best known for her leadership in establishing the Kindness Pandemic facebook group. At its peak there were more than half a million Australians sharing, connecting and linking their individual and community actions of kindness. The global nature of the pandemic and the local nature of containment and support embody what movements are all about – taking the old adage Think Global Act Local to a 21st century interpretation. COVID19 unlocked a lot of kindness and this kindness has enabled local leaders to come forward, develop their skills and join with others locally, across Australia and the world.\n\nOne of the features of this movement, was how it partnered and enabled alignment with other campaigns. The wide range of other campaigns the Kindness Pandemic aligned with from The Dinosaur Squad to Black Lives Matter, points to the importance of solidarity and intersectionality of issues and communities. Systems change occurs when there is convergence of analysis and mobilisation. It is a reminder to join with and the principle of saying yes to all that we share in common.\n\nPost the Bushfires which preceded COVID19 arriving on our shores, ChangeFest had the benefit of hearing from Sabrina Davis, Humans of Kangaroo Island. She shared her story and the stories of many others in the dark days that followed the Island community when in the summer of 2019/2020 46% of the entire Island was burnt, including 96% of Flinders Chase National Park. It was at that boundary that Sabrina and her family lived and are now rebuilding. From the ashes and horror, loss of wildlife, farm animals, human lives, and all kinds of flora and fauna species, what has risen along with the mental health challenges, is a tenacity and a wholeheartedness to find ways to call on each other and hear each others stories as part of the healing. The radical generosity of others on and off the Island was tangible and Sabrina set about documenting these stories. A film is forthcoming. Relationships between communities and peers – farmers to farmers in particular – drove home the truth that we are all in this together and in this climate emergency, some places are taking it harder than others.\n\nSabrina is one of the community leaders involved in the Menzies Foundation Leadership project and her evidence is contributing to building knowledge about the emergence of leaders.\n\nIt is clear in these two presentations the shift from belonging to being influential, with both of the presenters in these sessions being called on for public policy advice, participating in research and being in demand to share their stories of changemaking and mobilising others.\n\nHeart Centred Change Making\n\nThere is an Uluru shaped hole in the heart of Australia as the journey to de-colonise begins to grow. At ChangeFest there were oodles of ways this became visible, from the leadership of elders from Larrakia, Baabayn and Warril Yari Go through to the rap artists and drag queens at the community concert and everything in-between.\n\nThomas Mayor, Torres Strait Islander, author, activist and unionist provided formal input on his journey with the Uluru Statement and was joined in a unique performance from deadly MC and artist Edwin Fejo. Lessons from adaptive leadership on how to notice the dances in our collaborative leadership were demonstrated by CFI leaders Liz Skelton and Mark Yettica-Paulson and were ably assisted musically by Grant Yettica-Paulson and other dancers. These tools to understand and deconstruct our behaviour are a central piece of Deep Collaboration and the training on offer to facilitators who want to learn and apply this practice.\n\nOther glimpses included local people lining up when it was time for breaks for drinks and food, applauding and joining in some of the sessions and sing-a-longs in the evening. Holding the event in a public place, an act of radical transparency brought its challenges, however is a feature of any movement building, shifting some of the more familiar institutional barriers into the shared space.\n\nI am going to call this movement the decolonisation movement and it showed up at ChangeFest in the visible leadership and co-leadership of sessions. It was also hard wired as an intention of ChangeFest to have sessions they were hosted by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal leadership. This intention was not always fulfilled in action, and it is an area of focussed attention for the future with ongoing support from CFI.\n\nThe non-linear nature of this movement and the complexity and divergence of views about rallying around a common agenda such as the Uluru Statement does not take away from a shared position emerging on the principles of the Statement from the Heart – Voice, Truth, Treaty.\n\nThere was a session using the Statement as an instrument to help hack six areas close to ChangeFest, including the ChangeFest Statement itself. This process unleashed some new ideas and certainly disrupted the usual conference panel / presenters approach to inputs. As Aunty Faith Green said: ‘ Its time for a ChangeFest from the Heart statement.’\n\nHacking\n\nThese are disruptive times, and many of the disruptors are hackers. By definition hackers are people finding new pathways, pivoting and turning upside down what is not working, by using what we already have. This is a kind of improvisation. Hacking as a methodology, is part of what makes an entrepreneur, and like necessity, it is the mother of invention. Hackers by nature are impatient, using their technical expertise to overcome an obstacle or get a result that can’t be achieved from an existing configuration. This aligns with a wonderful energy within ChangeFest with so many people wanting urgent change.\n\nThe artistic work on the Universal Convention on the Rights and the Child entitled The Time is Now shared by La Boite Theatre demonstrated what a hack of this declaration could look like, by bringing the people, in this case, children, to be involved in the re-imaging of the rights of a child. This reimagining the rights of the child to the right to a childhood.\n\nAnother hack from ChangeFest was in the online MoneyHack session where input from Jengis Osman on macro monetary theory was paired with the Uluru Statement from the Heart and has led to the emergence of hacking a primary health network funded wellbeing program in regional NSW. More to be shared about this as it emerges.\n\nHacking as a current movement is usually confined to the online world and is mostly undertaken by men. However it has older associations with disruption and creating new pathways. Hacking shows up in systems that are not working, and this action demands that we develop significant ideas, more than reform, when what is really needed is a new system. Hacking can bring new lens to old problems and that was a feature of the process at ChangeFest. There were lenses from the arts, colonial systems, First Nations perspectives, funding professionals, social service disciplines and many community members lived experiences – all perspectives which are generally not included in hacks.\n\nLearning \n\nAs a practitioner I continue to learn from different movements about what works and therefore what might apply to our movement of building a community of systems change makers. The lessons I want to call out for all of us in this work is:\n\nLeadership is local\nLeaders join with other leaders\nLocals are joined and inspired by peers elsewhere\nOutsiders, strangers are useful and their privileging locals and Aboriginal voices creates new insights\nValue of understanding how to build online presence\nMobilising needs calls to action\nHumbly, join with others already doing this work\nIntersectionality and inclusion need to be factored in and don’t happen by accident\nDon’t go alone, go with others\nListen to the elders\nHave fun\nBring young voices into the centre\nPut principles at the heart of your changemaking\nMoira Were AM"},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"Collaborative for Impact are one of the National Conveners of ChangeFest, have developed and supported a set of foundations for the work of building a movement of systems change makers.\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1754971330/cfi/banner/movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_12.01.02_pm_k5hqh8.png","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1754971330/cfi/banner/movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_12.01.02_pm_k5hqh8.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1754971330/cfi/banner/movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_12.01.02_pm_k5hqh8.png"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1754971330/cfi/banner/movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_12.01.02_pm_k5hqh8.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1754971330/cfi/banner/movements-spotted-at-change-fest-nt-21-by-moira-were_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_12.01.02_pm_k5hqh8.png"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2021-07-23T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"689abfe92f06d37a2751d696","name":"ChangeFest On The Rug","path":"/posts/change-fest-on-the-rug","slug":"change-fest-on-the-rug","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"This is the story of ChangeFest 21 from my point of view.\n","text":"This is the story of ChangeFest 21 from my point of view."},"content":{"text":"I am a Gathering Blanket. So, I knew I would work in all ChangeFest conditions.\n\nI was designed with love by Gunditjmara artist, Laura Thompson on Wurundjeri Country. I am reversible, another quality I knew would come in handy at ChangeFest. On one side I am inspired by traditional possum skin cloaks, and on the other I celebrate Aboriginal language groups as per the AIATSIS map. There were going to be plenty of different groups from different countries at ChangeFest.\n\nWhen I arrived on Larrakia Land, I wriggled with excitement when I heard the announcement and acknowledgement of coming onto country that always was and always will be Aboriginal land. I felt welcome. I made my first outing from my comfy pouch in the handover from Moira to Sean, when he accepted the challenge to take me to all parts of ChangeFest. I witnessed and heard many stories and here are just a few I would like to share with you.\n\nChangeFest was supported by many volunteers from first aid officers to facilitators. The generosity of time, talents and energy was apparent even when people took a moment to sit down and relax. In my eavesdropping I heard how people got recruited to join in and who knew who and who was connected to who. You can see the team of health and wellbeing volunteers.\n\nThere were other people wearing pink hearts too who were stepping in if people needed a moment and have a witness to share and listen to anything that might have been triggering or needed some one-on-one listening. There have been delays and pivoting due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria.\n\nThe Territory have been welcoming people from across Australia in big numbers since COVID-19 closed International borders. There has been a lot going on and many locals have shared that even the wet season was busy they didn’t quite get the ‘rest and reset’ that other parts of Australia have experienced. So if travelling here from other places, bring your best self, your curiosity, patience and generosity.\n\nHEALTH CHECKS\n\nIf you are feeling unwell – DO NOT TRAVEL!\n\nPlease check the NT Government website for the latest updates. https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/\n\nIf you are in Victoria we are so sorry to miss you. The food is fresh and tasty, all produced from their premises at The Mount Druitt Hub.\n\nCommon Groundz in Lalor Park pride themselves on serving great food and coffee as well as providing a place of welcome and hospice. They are proudly not for profit and committed to projects and partnerships that serve the Lalor Park community.\n\nBoth If It Wasn’t For This Coffee and Comon Groundz are small operations and so shared the responsibility to feed the large gathering at ChangeFest 19. They will do alternate days and Kallico will do the other days. This spirit of collaboration and sharing runs through place based social change networks."},"title":null,"openGraph":{"description":{"plain":"One of the principles of ChangeFest is to spend money locally and support local enterprises with aligned values.\n"},"image":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/v1755004848/cfi/banner/local-caterers-fed-the-mount-druitt-gathering_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_9.17.32_pm_ubtbjn.png","url2x":null,"thumbnails":{"card":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_480/v1755004848/cfi/banner/local-caterers-fed-the-mount-druitt-gathering_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_9.17.32_pm_ubtbjn.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_960/v1755004848/cfi/banner/local-caterers-fed-the-mount-druitt-gathering_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_9.17.32_pm_ubtbjn.png"},"bubble":{"url":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_64/v1755004848/cfi/banner/local-caterers-fed-the-mount-druitt-gathering_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_9.17.32_pm_ubtbjn.png","url2x":"https://res.cloudinary.com/shapeable/image/upload/c_limit,w_128/v1755004848/cfi/banner/local-caterers-fed-the-mount-druitt-gathering_image__Screen_Shot_2025-08-12_at_9.17.32_pm_ubtbjn.png"}}}},"type":{"id":"6895ad838d9142b35ed66724","name":"News","slug":"news","__typename":"Platform_PostType"},"published":"2019-11-02T00:00:00.00","authors":[]},{"id":"689c4a8eb6fa451fcddba1ac","name":"Bringing your own water bottle was the start of Climate Action at ChangeFest","path":"/posts/bringing-your-own-water-bottle-was-the-start-of-climate-action-at-change-fest","slug":"bringing-your-own-water-bottle-was-the-start-of-climate-action-at-change-fest","__typename":"Platform_Post","_schema":{"label":"Post","pluralLabel":"Posts"},"intro":{"plain":"ChangeFest aims to produce significantly sustainable events.\n","text":"ChangeFest aims to produce significantly sustainable events."},"content":{"text":"Participants helped us out by bringing a water bottle and coffee keep cup to help us reduce waste. This has amplified a desperate need for systems change in Australia.\n\nHuge support for Indigenous communities was demonstrated by mass gatherings with renewed focus on deaths in custody following global #BlackLivesMatter protests and the tragic death of George Floyd in America. There is so much that needs to change.
